Dog Accessories

There are many dog accessories that make various aspects of pet ownership just a little easier. Training aids are especially useful when you’re trying to break a new dog of bad habits, or teach good ones to a new puppy. It’s important to include positive reinforcement when you are training a dog. It’s easy to fall into the rut of scolding your dog every time it does something you don’t want it to. It’s far more difficult to remember praise the dog for good behavior. Just as a scolding doesn’t need to be accompanied by a physical component like a rap on the nose; praising the dog doesn’t need to be accompanied by a treat. An occasional treat or physical deterrent can reinforce a behavior, but if you give a treat every time you are teaching your dog the wrong thing.

One great segment of dog accessories is the world of grooming aids. A good grooming brush will save you hours of fighting with the snarls in your dog’s coat. But that’s just the beginning when you look at your options for dog grooming. You can buy treats that brush their teeth, or tooth paste that’s non toxic to dogs. You can get bows to put in their hair, or shears that will allow you to trim their fur without making them look like Frankenstein. Of course, you could always take them to a dog groomer for that, but if you want to do it yourself, the option is open.

The thing about dog accessories is that it can refer to just about anything. Need a new bed for your dog? Well that’s an accessory… Want to buy your dog a toy? That’s one too!  So when speaking of them, it’s helpful to have examples at the ready. Things like treats, leashes, or furniture all readily fall into this category. They’re helpful, but hardly vital to the continued survival of your pet, or essential to maintaining a healthy relationship with your dog.
